Benefits of not having womd (BLOG #7)
Without weapons of mass destruction our world would be much more peaceful and we would have one less thing to be worried about. Weapons of mass destruction cause us to be frightened when used as a threat because of the many harmful things that it can do us and our environment. Our government(s) would not have to fight or hide from us when we are being threatened with these catastrophic weapons. Nuclear Weapons biggest Con and one that can all debate is that it has the potential to finish off mankind. A Nuclear War between 2 big powers can finish off mankind with hundreds of nuclear weapons being used. The few survivors would die off in the nuclear winter.
They can destroy life on a grand scale if countries engage in nuclear warfare. As long as nuclear weapons exist, humans live under a threat of world annihilation. Furthermore, the development of nuclear weapons is dangerous. In 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear plant in the Ukraine suffered one of the worst nuclear accidents in history. The accident affected thousands of people in nearby villages. Additionally, although means exist to control the radioactive by-products that result from nuclear weapons production, the environment is still susceptible to radioactive pollution.
When countries have a hold of nuclear weapons it gives them more power which means that they can pretty much get anything they want because of the fact that they could have devastating weapons pointing right at us. Another benefit of not having them would probably be the economic side to it. The cost to manufacture these weapons is probably a lot. It takes a huge amount of money out of the money that goes to the military to make. Therefore leaving little money for things that would be much more useful and practical.
It also affects people in general. Without these weapons people wouldn't be having to fear the capabilities that other countries can do. With these weapons other countries can force others to easily give up with the power of those weapons in their possession. Nuclear Weapons were only used by USA against Japan when 2 low level nuclear bombs were dropped over Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Bombs not only killed thousands but also caused disability and radiation diseases among survivors and helpers. These effects were still being felt even now almost 65 years after the bombs were destroyed in 1945. Before Nuclear Weapons Testing was banned, they used to cause huge pollution of land and water by major powers.Thousands of Nuclear Tests by the Big Powers resulted in radiation pollution of the sea and land .
